Empowerment Grows Where We Root Ourselves Deeply in God

The Presence of God Was Always Meant to Shape Everyday Christian Life

There are moments where we can quietly settle into a spiritual routine without even realizing it. We attend church, read the Bible, pray when we can, and continue carrying the responsibilities of daily life. Yet deep inside us, there is still a hunger for something more alive, more present, and more powerful in our walk with Jesus. Empowerment becomes distant when faith slowly turns into a habit instead of a relationship.

Yet Jesus never demonstrated a powerless life. Everywhere He went, Heaven touched people. The sick were healed, the rejected were welcomed, captives found freedom, and ordinary lives were transformed through the goodness of God. When we read the Gospels honestly, we quickly realize that Jesus revealed what life looks like when someone lives continually aware of the Father’s presence. That invitation still stands before us today.

This message builds naturally on two earlier teachings shared at Fountain of Life Church. In Intentionality Is the Difference Between Attending Church and Walking With God, we were reminded that spiritual growth becomes fruitful when we intentionally pursue fellowship with God instead of drifting through routine. In Your New Nature in Christ Changes How You See Yourself, we saw how our identity in Christ reshapes the way we think, live, and respond to God. Those truths connect deeply to empowerment because rooted believers begin reaching higher in faith, confidence, and expectation.

As this teaching unfolds, we are invited to think like a tree. A healthy tree grows downward before it reaches upward. Its roots go deep while its branches continue stretching higher. That picture carries profound wisdom for our spiritual lives. God calls us to grow deeper in His presence while allowing His life and power to flow outward through us every day.

FAQ

Why does empowerment begin with going deeper into God?

Empowerment grows where our roots are firmly planted in God’s presence, His Word, and His goodness. The sermon used the picture of a tree growing downward and upward at the same time. As we grow deeper in fellowship with God, our lives begin carrying greater spiritual fruit outwardly. God’s power flows most freely through hearts that remain connected to Him daily.

Does God only move powerfully through pastors or spiritual leaders?

The sermon made it clear that God works through ordinary believers who respond to Him in faith. Healing, encouragement, prayer, and compassion are not reserved for a platform or title. Jesus said believers would continue His works, and that includes daily life in homes, workplaces, schools, businesses, and relationships. Empowerment becomes visible when we trust God enough to step forward in obedience.

What if I pray for someone and nothing happens immediately?

Jesus said believers would lay hands on the sick, and they would recover. Recovery can include process and persistence. Some healing happens instantly, while other situations improve gradually over time. The sermon encouraged us to continue praying, continue trusting God, and remain expectant without becoming discouraged. Faithfulness and obedience matter deeply because God is still at work.

Empowerment Grows Where We Root Ourselves Deeply in God

Jesus Modeled a Life Overflowing With God’s Power

During the sermon, we were reminded that Jesus never separated daily life from the power of God. He healed the sick, raised the dead, provided food for hungry people, welcomed those rejected by society, and brought freedom to those bound by darkness. His ministry carried compassion, authority, and intimacy with the Father.

That matters because Jesus did not present His life as an unreachable example reserved only for Himself. He spoke directly to His followers and said:

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto My Father.” — John 14:12 KJV

Those words carry tremendous weight. Jesus was revealing that His ministry would continue through His people. Empowerment belongs within the daily Christian life because the Holy Spirit lives within us.

We can sometimes fall into a rhythm where Christianity becomes reduced to activities. Quiet time becomes another task to complete. Church attendance becomes routine. Prayer becomes rushed. Yet deep inside us, there is still a longing for genuine fellowship with Jesus Himself. The sermon pressed firmly into that tension and reminded us that there is more available through God’s presence than simply going through motions.

Empowerment Flows Through Ordinary Acts of Faith

One of the most powerful parts of the sermon came through the testimonies shared about healing and prayer. Children prayed for unborn babies, and healing came. A woman facing surgery received healing in her shoulder after prayer. Lives were touched because someone stepped forward in faith and believed God would move.

Those moments help us see something important. Empowerment is not reserved for a platform or title. God moves through believers who are willing to respond when He prompts them.

We sometimes place spiritual power into categories that feel distant from everyday life. Yet the sermon continually brought empowerment back into ordinary places. What could it look like for the power of Jesus to move through your workplace? Your classroom? Your kitchen table? Your conversations with friends and family?

At the end of Mark’s Gospel, Jesus said believers would lay hands on the sick, and they would recover. Recovery itself reminds us that God works faithfully even when healing unfolds over time. Some miracles happen instantly. Some healing comes progressively as prayer continues. The invitation remains the same: step forward in faith and trust the goodness of God.

That truth removes tremendous pressure from us. We do not need to manufacture power or force dramatic outcomes. We respond in obedience while trusting Jesus to work through us. Empowerment grows where faith becomes active.

Growing Deeper Before Reaching Higher

The image of the tree became central throughout the sermon. A tree grows downward and upward at the same time. Its roots anchor it deeply while its branches continue expanding higher. That same principle applies spiritually.

We all desire to see God move more powerfully. We long to pray with greater faith, encourage people more boldly, and witness God touching lives around us. Yet healthy spiritual growth always begins by rooting ourselves deeply in God’s ways and His presence.

The apostle Paul wrote these words to the Galatians:

“I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.” — Galatians 2:21 KJV

Shortly afterward, Paul asks them:

“Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?” — Galatians 3:2 KJV

Those verses speak directly to how we view empowerment. We sometimes assume God moves more powerfully through people who seem spiritually stronger, more disciplined, or more qualified. Yet the Gospel continually points us back to Jesus’ righteousness instead of our own performance.

The sermon addressed this beautifully. Empowerment does not begin with striving harder to earn God’s approval. It begins with believing what Jesus has already accomplished for us. God’s favor rests upon us because of Christ. The Holy Spirit is given freely through grace.

That truth allows us to step forward with confidence. We pray because Jesus is righteous. We trust God because Jesus has opened the way for us to stand boldly before the Father.

God’s Presence Is the Source of True Empowerment

Toward the end of the message, we returned to Exodus 33, where Moses speaks with God after being given an enormous responsibility. Moses acknowledges that God knows him by name and that God’s favor rests upon him. Then he makes a profound request:

“Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in Thy sight, shew me now Thy way, that I may know Thee.” — Exodus 33:13 KJV

Moses already had God’s favor, yet he still longed to know God more deeply. He desired God’s ways, His heart, and His presence.

God’s response remains deeply comforting for us today:

“My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.” — Exodus 33:14 KJV

That is where empowerment truly begins. We grow stronger spiritually as we pursue God Himself. We learn His ways through Scripture, prayer, worship, and continual fellowship with Him. As our roots grow deeper into His goodness, our lives begin carrying greater spiritual fruit outwardly.

The sermon ended with a simple but powerful reminder: we experience God’s presence more deeply when we believe His goodness. When we focus on His goodness, our hearts become open to trust Him more fully.

Empowerment Flourishes Where God’s Goodness Is Believed

God never intended for us to live exhausted, distant, or spiritually numb. He calls us into living fellowship with Him, where His presence strengthens us daily. Empowerment grows where we remain rooted in His goodness, grounded in His Word, and willing to step forward in faith.

Jesus still heals. Jesus still restores. Jesus still speaks life into weary hearts and brings freedom where darkness once held influence. The Holy Spirit continues working through ordinary believers who trust God and respond to Him.

Let us grow deeper in His presence while reaching higher in faith. Let us encourage people boldly, pray with expectation, and remain aware that God desires to work through our lives every day. Empowerment flourishes where hearts stay hungry for Jesus and where His goodness is believed fully.
